Lagos State Launches Cybersecurity Operations Centre to Counter Internal Threats

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a Cybersecurity Operations Centre (CSOC) designed to serve as a central hub for the real-time monitoring, identification, and response to cyber threats throughout the state. This initiative was announced by Olatunbosun Alake, the Lagos Commissioner for Science, Innovation, and Technology, during a ministerial press briefing on Monday.

Alake highlighted that the CSOC will leverage modern technologies and the expertise of cybersecurity professionals to safeguard the state's digital infrastructure against potential threats.

Additionally, Alake revealed the establishment of a cybersecurity committee comprising experts from both the public and private sectors. This committee is tasked with advising the government and overseeing the creation, enhancement, and implementation of cybersecurity policies, programs, and training initiatives.

“The government is collaborating with cybersecurity firms and international organizations to bolster security and governance through advanced technologies and expertise. This collaboration includes acquiring sophisticated technologies and knowledge to defend against cyber threats,” Alake explained.

Moreover, Alake touched upon the government's Data Protection Compliance Project, noting that workshops have been launched to raise data protection awareness among government officials, with specific objectives set across various departments.
