Nigeria forges partnership with Sweden to bolster digital economy

Nigeria is actively seeking to strengthen its ties with Sweden to foster the growth of its digital economy. Dr. Bosun Tijani, Nigeria's Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, recently concluded a visit to Sweden aimed at deepening collaboration in this crucial sector.

During his visit to Stockholm, Tijani held significant meetings, including discussions with the Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, as well as engagements with key players in the private sector. Highlighting Nigeria's position as Sub-Saharan Africa's second-largest trading partner, He emphasized the importance of enhancing ICT cooperation between the two nations.

Tijani underscored Sweden's impressive track record in innovation, boasting the world's second-highest concentration of unicorns and a rich history of pioneering technological advancements. He expressed optimism about the potential for collaboration between Nigeria and Sweden in areas such as innovation, research, connectivity, and digital technology, all of which are integral to accelerating Nigeria's digital economy.

The current administration under President Bola Tinubu, in power since 2023, has articulated a strategic vision for Nigeria that prioritizes leveraging digital technology and innovation to diversify the economy. This strategic plan aligns with Nigeria's aspirations to harness the transformative power of technology to drive socio-economic development.

Annika Hahn-Englund, Swedish Ambassador to West Africa and Cameroon, extended an invitation to Tijani to further strengthen bilateral ties between Nigeria and Sweden. This gesture underscores the mutual commitment of both nations to forge a dynamic partnership that fosters innovation, drives economic growth, and unlocks the full potential of the digital economy.
