Ogun Head of Service advocates collaboration with engineers for infrastructure development

The Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, has emphasized the importance of collaboration with professional bodies such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to help advance the state's ambitious infrastructure development agenda.

This message was conveyed during a meeting with the Abeokuta branch of the NSE, led by its Chairman, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, during a courtesy visit to the HoS's office in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

Onasanya commended the progress made under the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, noting that the state is undergoing significant transformation, becoming a hub of construction activity.

He pointed to the successful construction of over 600 kilometers of durable roads across Ogun State as a key achievement.

He highlighted the reconstruction of the Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos dual carriageway as a testament to the government's commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Further emphasizing the government's dedication, Onasanya mentioned ongoing developments in the housing and industrial sectors, citing the Gateway Agro-Cargo International Airport project as an example of the state's focus on significant engineering and infrastructure projects.

Onasanya acknowledged the critical role engineers play in ensuring long-lasting infrastructure and expressed the administration's desire for continued collaboration with the NSE.

He stated that while the government is committed to building resilient infrastructure, collaboration with engineers would further elevate the state's development efforts.

In addition to infrastructure development, Onasanya reaffirmed the government's commitment to public servants' professional growth.

He noted that Ogun State had adopted the resolutions of the National Council of Establishment, resulting in the elevation of entry-level positions for engineers in the civil service from Grade Level 08 to Grade Level 09.

This move, he said, is aimed at improving the career prospects of engineers and ensuring that the state's workforce remains competitive and motivated.

Addressing the engineers' concerns, Onasanya promised to consider the requests for the reclassification of engineering roles within the civil service, ensuring alignment with current laws and public service regulations.

Idowu also commended Governor Abiodun's administration for its swift implementation of the National Council on Establishment’s directives, particularly the adjustments in entry-level positions for graduate engineers.

He urged the government to further extend these reforms to include the reclassification of other affected professionals to enhance their career opportunities.
