The Cloud Network Foundation (CNF), a prominent stakeholder group in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry, has pledged its readiness to collaborate with the newly constituted board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The Foundation said its goal is to support the commission in driving sustainable growth and strengthening cooperation across the telecoms and ICT ecosystem.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the Foundation warmly welcomed Mr. Idris Olorunnimbe, recently appointed Chairman of the NCC Board, and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assembling a leadership team described as competent, visionary, and experienced enough to steer Nigeria’s communications sector into a new phase of development.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Cloud Network Foundation is a registered non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing telecommunications and ICT as the backbone of Nigeria’s modern economy,” the statement read. “It is a convergence of ICT mediapreneurs—veteran practitioners across print, broadcast, and digital platforms—who are deeply committed to seeing the industry thrive as a driver of national growth.”
Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, its Chairman, Mr. Abimbola Tooki, praised Mr. Olorunnimbe’s pedigree as a discerning stakeholder and seasoned administrator.
“Just as we, in the Foundation, are men and women with an in-depth understanding and passion for the industry’s growth, we acknowledge your own track record as a leader with vision,” Tooki said. “Your commitment to making telecoms a money spinner for the economy, a source of content, and a job creator for Nigeria’s teeming youths is a big plus for our nation. This will no doubt reinforce President Tinubu’s digital economy and Artificial Intelligence agenda.”
Tooki further noted that Olorunnimbe’s background as a seasoned entrepreneur and administrator brings a wealth of knowledge and strategic insight that will strengthen the NCC’s regulatory oversight. “We are confident that under your leadership, the commission will drive innovation, deepen broadband penetration, and enhance Nigeria’s global competitiveness in the digital age,” he added.
The Foundation also outlined priority areas where it expects the new NCC Board to make immediate impact:
-
Digital Economy Growth – expanding Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, encouraging innovation, and supporting start-ups.
-
Regulatory Efficiency – improving the effectiveness of NCC’s regulatory frameworks to enable fair competition and industry growth.
-
Universal Access – working with stakeholders to extend affordable communication services to underserved and rural areas.
-
Network Security – safeguarding telecom infrastructure, strengthening data protection, and ensuring resilience against cyber threats.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Cloud Network Foundation pledged to work hand-in-hand with the NCC and other stakeholders to achieve shared aspirations for the sector.
“We look forward to a robust partnership with Mr. Olorunnimbe and the NCC Board,” Tooki concluded, “so that together we can shape a telecoms industry that is innovative, inclusive, and truly transformative for Nigeria’s economy.”
