MTN pledges to lead Africa's digital infrastructure expansion
MTN Group has committed to driving digital transformation across Africa, while advocating for legislative support to streamline regulations that would attract further investment in digital infrastructure—an essential component for the continent's economic growth.
During the annual Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, MTN Group Chairman Mcebisi Jonas and President and CEO Ralph Mupita engaged with leaders from various countries. Africa's largest telecom provider is collaborating with partners to ensure the continent has the quality broadband access necessary for a flourishing digital economy."We support the skilling and re-skilling of people across Africa to meet the demands of the digital age. These initiatives are crucial to fostering an environment conducive to innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development across Africa," stated Mupita.
Jonas added, "Digitalisation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution are transforming Africa’s prospects." He emphasized that achieving this transformation requires several steps, including strengthening governance, sustaining policy reforms, investing in infrastructure and skills, and managing geopolitical challenges.
The discussions with national leaders focused on supporting the national development goals of the host nations and Africa as a whole. Notable leaders Jonas and Mupita met included Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Kenyan President William Ruto, and Côte d’Ivoire’s Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé.
