Breaking: Crisis Rocks Rivers State Again

In the midst of a political crisis, Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, representing Bonny Constituency, has assumed the role of Speaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly, aligning himself with the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. 

This move comes amidst heightened tensions sparked by the directive from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. Oko-Jumbo's appointment follows the resignation of former Speaker Rt. Hon. Eddison Ehie, who stepped down from both his position as Speaker and as a member of the House on December 31, 2023, exacerbating the ongoing crisis within the political landscape of the state.

The emergence of Oko-Jumbo as Speaker also coincides with Governor Fubara's bold assertion regarding the status of 27 Assembly members who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Governor Fubara's declaration challenging the legitimacy of these members adds a layer of complexity to the political crisis. Against this backdrop, Oko-Jumbo's appointment signifies a significant shift in power dynamics within the Rivers State House of Assembly, setting the stage for potential shifts in legislative priorities and agendas amidst the ongoing crisis.
